JD Vance Calls For Joe Biden To Resign: ‘If You Can’t Run, You Can’t Serve’
Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), the GOP’s vice presidential pick, has called for President Joe Biden to “resign.”
“Everyone calling on Joe Biden to *stop running* without also calling on him to resign the presidency is engaged in an absurd level of cynicism,” Vance wrote Saturday on X, formerly Twitter. “If you can’t run, you can’t serve. He should resign now.”
Vance’s statement comes amid mounting calls for Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. In June, Biden’s poor performance in a debate against GOP rival Donald Trump thrust concerns about the 81-year-old’s mental acuity into the spotlight.
Since the debate, more than 30 Democratic lawmakers have called on Biden to end his reelection bid and allow someone else to run in his place. However, those calls have focused on the rigors of the campaign trail and the four years of a potential second term — not the approximately six months left in his current term.
“I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail next week to continue exposing the threat of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America: one where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for everyone,” he said in a statement.
